Chiefs Rout Saints, 23-3
New Orleans -- The Kansas City Chiefs began their 1970 title defense with a 23-3 pasting of the New Orleans Saints. Kansas City had their rushing attack rolling. Mike Garrett led a committee of running backs that rolled up 213 yards on the ground and the Kansas City defense intercepted four New Orleans passes. Last year's Super Bowl MVP Len Dawson had a workmanlike game, completing 9-of-15 passes for 84 yards.
The Saints rushed the ball well, but were never really in the game. Tony Baker paced New Orleans on the ground with 91 yards on 17 carries. Saints QB Billy Kilmer completed 11-of-19 passes for 104 yards, but was intercepted three times. Edd Hargett replaced Kilmer but completed none of his five pass attempts and also threw an interception.
